St Michael's on a Sunday morning

Times of Services

St Michael's has two services which take place in the church each Sunday morning - 9.30am and 11am. The 11am Sunday morning service remains in traditional format throughout the year, with accompaniment by organ and choir of up to 40 mixed adult voices. The choir contributes anthems at the major Christian festivals.

The 9.30am service is a choir-less version of the 11am service, but during the summer months it becomes an all-age worship service. Emphasis is placed on the younger members of our congregation and a "St. Michael’s" Praise Book with songs from different musical styles is used in addition to Common Ground and Songs of God’s People. Accompaniment is by St. Michael’s Family Band, a collection of up to 20 instrumentalists including piano, brass, strings, woodwind, guitar, accordion and hammer dulcimer. family band leading worship

Evening services during September to May take place in the Kirk Hall at 6.30pm and the format has more of a teaching emphasis. Accompaniment is by the piano, guitar and bass. Common Ground, Songs of God’s People and other praise books are used.

An all-age family worship service is provided in the local Springfield Primary School which serves the large housing developments to the east of the town. These services are often led by elders and the availabilty of the school hall is restricted to Sundays during term times.

A monthly Sunday service is also held in St. Michael’s Hospital, which cares for the old and infirm in our community. Volunteers from the congregation go along to help out with the singing at these services.
