St Michael's Fabric Fund

St Michael's Parish Church was consecrated in 1242 by the Bishop of St Andrew's, David de Bernham. For over 760 years now congregations have been worshipping in what is considered to be one of the most beautiful medieval churches in Scotland. Compared to England and the rest of Europe, Scotland has few such churches still in use. A turbulent political and eccliastical history has not been kind to such buildings and now many stand in ruins. This means that those remaining are doubly precious. St Michael's, in particular, has an important place in the history of our nation and is a vital part of its eccliastical and architectural heritage.

The enemy today is atmospheric pollution conspiring with our Scottish weather to erode the stonework of wall and window tracery and to damage roof timbers. The congregation has sought over the years to keep its building in good repair — a major restoration project was completed in 2002 — but work on any ancient building is labour-intensive and, therefore, costly. The Fabric Fund provides for the ongoing care and maintenance of this splendid sanctuary.

the santuary that is St Michael'sFor almost 800 years, St Michael's has stood as a centre for worship and service in Linlithgow, witnessing to a community's faith in God. It is, therefore, much more than an ancient monument; it is the hole of a living community of faith, and pray God, that will continue.
