The Guild of St Michael's Parish is a member of the National Guild of the Church of Scotland.  Our motto is ‘Whose we are and whom we serve’.  The aim of the Guild is to invite and encourage the commitment of our lives to Jesus Christ and to enable us to express our faith in worship, prayer and action. The Guild is involved with various issues locally, nationally and internationally e.g. trafficking of people, violence, HIV/AIDs, trade justice, body image and health issues.  Through the national organisation the Guild also has a voice in several secular groups. St Michael's Guild meets fortnightly on Mondays at 7.30pm in the Kirk Hall from September to April for worship, prayer, fellowship and friendship and to support local and wider issues.  Through the national Church of Scotland Guild we support a number of projects annually.  Each year there is a theme which links with the projects.  This session (2008/09) the theme is 'He restores my soul' and this year our Guild is involved in supporting two of the international projects.  One is the Lydia project to help empower women to help the most hurt people of 16 East European countries.  The other project is a Christian Aid project - Action for the Adivasi supporting the poor in Bangladesh - some of the poorest in the world - through nutrition, improved water and sanitation and education of the children.  We have speakers from the different projects to explain how the money raised by the individual Guilds is used.  We raise money through fortnightly giving, coffee mornings and other fund raising events. Each meeting starts with a time of worship, prayer and a Bible reading before hearing our speaker. We have a programme of diverse speakers - some are members of the congregation and others are external speakers (e.g. speakers about the projects).  We also have fun evenings where we enjoy the company of friends (e.g. Christmas meal, the Junior Choir and playing games with the Girls' Brigade who are bringing their favourite board games to teach us adults)   We finish with a cup of tea and chat among friends at about 9pm. All are very welcome and if you are not already a member of St Michael's Guild we would love to see you.  So come and join us.  The programme is on the Guild notice board in Cross House.  For further information contact Church Office
