West Lothian Handchimes Can you count to four? Do you like a challenge? Great! Then why not join your local group of tintinnabulators (handbell ringers to you and me)? If you are in Cross House on a Tuesday evening between 7.30pm and 9.00pm and you think you're hearing things, then you probably are: "Is it the bells, Esmeralda?" According to some sources, bells have been associated with worship in Scotland since the 5th century and definitely since the 8th century in England. Mention bell ringing and most people think of bells pealing out , calling the congregation to worship. Handbell ringing developed from Tower Bell ringing (campanology) when small handbells were developed to allow the "changes" to be practised in warmth and comfort rather than the drafty belfry. West Lothian Handchimes are always looking for new members, young and not so young! We have a good laugh and, hopefully, make a good sound. Established in 1992, the group has received support and encouragement from the congregation of St Michael's. So, come and join us on a Tuesday evening to ring out in praise. The group leader is Cherie Finlay, who can be contacted via the church office for further details.
