2nd Linithgow Company Boys' Brigade Silver Jubilee

St Michael's Boys' Brigade Company
2nd Linlithgow Co.
Captain: Ken MacKenzie

The Boys' Brigade Sections recommence on Thursday, 28th August 2008. Boys of all ages from P2 to S6 are warmly invited to join. Help is always appreciated and parents are encouraged to speak to Captain Ken Mackenzie or one of the officers about this.

The Company was raised in 1979. From small beginnings with 3 boys and four officers, the Company is now one of the largest in the West Lothian battalion with just under 100 boys. The Captain is Ken Mackenzie. Over the years, the Company has enjoyed considerable encouragement and excellent facilities from St Michael's Parish Church.

Object
Fundamental to any Boys’ Brigade Company is the Brigade’s Object — an Object which has served the organisation well since it’s founding in July 1883.

You might well think that an Object that is well over 100 years old would be completely out of touch with the requirements of the youth of today. We hope to demonstrate that it is still very relevant, albeit many of our methods of achieving it would probably be incomprehensible to the officers of 1883.

Uniform
The Boys’ Brigade is a ‘Uniform Organisation’. We consider that the uniform worn by all the boys gives them a feeling of ‘belonging’ and the inspection of that uniform at the start of each meeting helps promote discipline and self respect – two of the ‘Objects’ which were mentioned earlier. Certainly we find that the boys of in all age groups are very keen on their uniform and are very well turned out each week. The Boys’ Brigade uniform was ‘updated’ in 2003 with the Company Section uniform seeing the greatest change. We involved the boys at every stage of the debate on what the new uniform should be and the reaction from them was very definitely in favour of a uniform. Indeed our boys were in favour of a much more formal version than the one which has been adopted by the Brigade. The uniform requirements for each Section are listed in the notes on that Section.

Meetings, Sections and Age Groups:

Anchor Boys: (P2 & P3) meet in thee Kirk Hall on Thursdays from 6.15pm – 7.15pm. The uniform is a red sweater with B.B. crest

Junior Section: (P4 – P6) meet in the Adam Room of Cross House on Thursdays from 7.00pm – 8.15pm. They wear the blue sweater with B.B. crest as their uniform.

Company Section: (P7 – S6) Meetings are in the Kirk Hall on Thursdays from 7.15pm – 9.15pm. The uniform is more familiar consisting of a blue B.B. shirt, B.B. crested tie, B.B. belt, B.B. cap and dark trousers and shoes.

Breakfast Club: (S2 – S6) [For boys not already attending Junior Church or the Church Bible class] Meetings Guide Hall, Dog Well Wynd on Sundays, 9.30am – 10.30am. No uniform. Toast a specialty!

Further Information
We hope that the foregoing will have given you an idea what we are all about and how we may be of service to your sons. If you would like more information on the various Sections of the Company, please contact the church office in the first instance. One of the officers will return your call. They are all very happy to assist in any way they can.

Please also visit our Company's own Web Site that is constantly being updated and developed with much more information on the history of the Company and many photographs of our activities.
